Geological Awareness
Geology is a science that has a profound impact on our lives, and it is not an exaggeration to say that it is the foundation upon which human civilizations were built, the spark that ignited the Industrial Revolution, and the key that enabled us to reach the progress and development we see in our world today. Geology is also used to identify the locations of mineral resources such as iron, gold, copper, and others, all of which have economic and industrial value. The importance of geology in mining operations does not stop at discovering mines and identifying their locations; its significance goes far beyond that. Geology specializes in studying the stages of mineral formation within the Earth's interior, and thanks to it, the types of minerals are identified, their compositions are determined, and their characteristics are understood, thus discovering the best methods for utilizing them.

Geological Tourism
Geological tourism is a natural and sustainable form of tourism, as it promotes geological and geomorphological features to tourists.
The Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission has launched the geological tourism project in Jordan based on the principles and elements of geological tourism, due to Jordan's diverse terrain and geological variety.
Jordan is considered by geologists to be their ideal destination because its geographic and climatic conditions allow geologists to conduct fieldwork throughout the year, and to study various stratigraphic sequences and rocks, both ancient and modern, without difficulty.
Jordan enjoys a unique location and stunning geological nature, where geological formations make their presence felt, even to the casual observer. It reveals rock records from most geological eras, starting with the foundational rocks from the Precambrian (800-550 million years ago), representing the northern extension of the Arabian-Nubian Shield, which is over 1.1 billion years old, topped by rocks from the Phanerozoic (Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic eras), which range in age from 550 million years to the present day.
Petra is one of the most important tourist destinations in Jordan, considered a geological museum and a fertile environment for geological tourism. Its appeal comes from the unique diversity of rock records, which represent a geological heritage that can be added to Jordan’s tourist map.
The Principle of Geological Tourism Project
Its reliance on geological characteristics
Its foundation is on the concept of sustainability.
Its inclusion of scientific and educational aspects.
Its benefits at the local level.
Its contribution to achieving tourist satisfaction.
Its role in spreading geological awareness within society
Elements of Geological Tourism that have been worked on:
1
Planning and management of geological sites
2
Interpretation of geological sites.
Objectives of the Geological Tourism Project:
Combining tourism and biological elements with the geological tourism content to enhance local, regional, and international development levels.
Creating a reference document for geological tourism for all geologists and those interested in this field, and developing a marketable tourism product.
Raising the scientific content level and protecting geological sites from depletion and disappearance as a tourism element.
Stimulating the tourism sector, which would extend the visitors' stay in the area, benefiting many parties.
Increasing awareness of the value of geological heritage by encouraging educational trips for schools, universities, and tourists.
