Distribution and Retail Supply
Electricity transmission and distribution is carried out through a system consisting of cables, overhead lines, electrical facilities, and associated equipment, designed with a nominal voltage of 33 kV or less to distribute electrical power from the connection points of the transmission system to the distribution system, to supply points or from power stations connected to the distribution system. This involves selling electricity to consumers in a specific area as a retail supplier and issuing monthly bills for their consumption, without including any part of the transmission system.
Licenses
The Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission, in its role, grants licenses in accordance with the Electricity Law, regulations, and instructions governing the distribution and retail supply of electrical energy from connection points (main stations) to the transmission network, to the service recipients (standard retail distribution and supply license). The Commission has granted licenses to three companies to carry out retail supply and distribution, divided by geographic regions, as follows:
- Distribution and Retail Supply License for the Jordanian Electric Power Company (Central Region). To view, click here

- Distribution and Retail Supply License for Irbid District Electricity Company (Northern Region). To view, click here

- Distribution and Retail Supply License for the Electricity Distribution Company (Southern Region, Eastern Kingdom, Northern and Central Shore). To view, click here

Oversight and Inspection
Through its regulatory role, the Authority seeks to implement inspection programs for all activities subject to regulation to ensure that the licensee complies with the law, applicable regulations, and any other conditions outlined in the licensing requirements. The goals include:
Ensuring compliance with the Electricity Law, regulations, and the granted license.
Identifying lessons learned in the energy sector and applying them as required.
Ensuring that the facility, equipment, and work performance meet all applicable requirements.
Identifying violations and shortcomings and correcting or justifying them without delay.
In case of any violations or failure to meet applicable requirements, the Authority has the authority to take enforcement actions against the licensee, such as imposing fines.
